KD collaborated with the architectural designer to integrate the exterior form of the home with the interior spaces, designing the house to take full advantage of the site on a knoll above a meadow, with a 180 degree view of the Pacific ocean. Designed to take advantage of the natural light and exterior views, the design incorporates natural materials and neutral colors, Douglas fir and redwood trim, and Heath ceramic tiles to take advantage of solar warmth. A focal point is the double faced fireplace surround featuring ocean tumbled locally harvested natural beach stones, hand selected by KD. The open interior spaces flow together, with the ability to add more privacy with fixed louver wood doors. The architectural elements are enhanced by a few classic pieces of furniture intersperced with comfortable upholstered seating and colorful hand loomed rugs and unique accessories.
